Rockaway Park was open last weekend for Somerset Arts Week so we headed up there on Sunday. Matt was actually supposed to be working but when I was scrolling through Instagram early that morning and saw a photo that Eleanor from The Bristol Parent had posted the day before I KNEW we had to visit there instead and that he could be easily convinced. The words ‘scrapyard and cars’ was all it took for him to ‘scrap’ the idea of going to work.
Rockaway Park is hidden away in a disused quarry on top of Cloud Hill in Temple Cloud, not too far from Bristol. It is a scrapyard and so much more, there are studios, workshops, the most amazing house which has rooms to stay in and provides vegan breakfast / meals, you can find them on Air B & B here, there is also a treatment room and tattoo studio located in there. There was a vegan café open for the weekend and the plan is to open that full-time. There is basically just cool stuff everywhere and a community of creative people living there. WE LOVED IT.
It was totally our kind of place and if you are around in the next week then I would definitely recommend a visit. Click here to visit their website and read more about all the fab things going on there. Here are some of the photos I took..
This rubbish monster moved and it’s eyes opened and closed, Tiger LOVED it.
The front of this aeroplane had been converted into a living space and had a bed inside.
We fell in love with this guy’s artwork, we bought one actually and are going to save up for some of his bigger pieces.
This is the house, this area which feels like you are outside is just perfect and the open place living area it leads into.. honestly this is my dream house.
The tattoo studio is upstairs and had such a lovely feel, definitely somewhere you would be happy sitting for a long time. You can find his website here, his tattoo artwork is amazing.
The last place we’ve been to that we’ve liked as much as this was Dismaland, I blogged about that over on Along Came Cherry, you can see the blog post here. Now we just need to save up and buy our own scrapyard!
